"Little thing" you cannot live without

When someone shows you the Scottoiler for the first time, first reaction, as whenever you see some simple product like this one, is disbelief that it can really work and fulfil it's task. But, after few hundred kms, when you realise that you got rid of the most unpleasant duty which "goes" with owning the motorcycle - lubricating and cleaning the chain - you start asking yourself how could you ever live without it.

British inventor Fraser Scott invented the Scottoiler some 20 years ago. It works on a gravity principle, cleaning and lubricating the chain, without any movable parts and without draining any power from the engine. Thanks to the attachment to carbs vac-uum (or fuel injection or turbo charger system - it can be used on all bike types) regulating valve activates and it delivers the oil only while engine is running. It doesn't influence engine work in any way, since all it takes is 3 cubic centimetres of air from the carbs, and since oil flow is only 1-2 drops per minute, there is no danger it could make the rear tyre greasy with oil. Flow can be increased when needed while riding in aggressive conditions and on dirt roads. Thanks to continuous cleaning and lubrication, the life of the chain is increased between 2 and 7 times, and need for tensioning the chain is also being reduced. It should be used on chains with so-called "O" rings, since these rings are made from rubber with high friction coefficient. Unless the surface is being kept in wet condition, the rubber will harden and cracks will appear, allowing dirt to penetrate into the joints. Friction which then occurs could reduce engine power even by 3 HP, and you cannot properly tension the chain.

Scottoiler uses special oil, and it's 50 ml tank will last between 800 and 1600 km, while it's possible to install bigger tank with 8 x larger capacity. Basic kit costs 70 GBP, with additional tank 94GBP, while ½ litre of oil costs 4.95GBP.
