At Scottoiler, we’re passionate about doing what we can for the environment. The slow but steady advancement of electric vehicles means we are heading in the right direction, but there is still a long way to go to combat the impacts of climate change. That means businesses like ours should be thinking of the future and making better choices now.
The United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP), in their paper titled ‘Just Transitions For All’ they provide a detailed account of the adverse impacts that climate change has on global human rights. It provides a framework for businesses to adopt to reduce their impact on the climate, with the fight for human rights at the forefront.
Firstly, the UNGP points out that “businesses contribute to human rights impacts through their greenhouse gas emissions”. This may seem obvious, as everyone plays a part in contributing to greenhouse gas emissions. However, it is important for businesses to take responsibility for the emissions their practices produce. We have taken steps, and continue to do so, that reduce our environmental impact. Most notably we have been a Carbon Neutral business since 2018, and you can read here to find out more detail about the specific steps we have taken to maintain this status.
Most recently, we are taking steps to make our product range more environmentally friendly. We have just introduced our Biodegradable All-Climate Green Oil as an option alongside our Standard Blue and Red Scottoil refills when purchasing a Scottoiler system. This oil works in all climates and is made from a vegetable base, meaning it is readily biodegradable. As such, there is now no reason to use any other oils and we hope that customers will get on board as we make this move towards a more sustainable future.
Sustainable development is key to shifting business operations in the future. As the UNGP put it, business operations in the present shouldn’t impact “the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” As such, we maintain a low-waste and ethical practice of sourcing parts from the most efficient suppliers, ensuring that production of Scottoiler systems generates as little waste as possible.
Finally, a renewed reliance on a circular economy is key to preserving supplies of important resources into the future. To take part within a circular economy as much as possible, we offer strong warranties with all of our products and do our best to repair a system before providing a replacement. Where a repair is not possible, we also offer a supply of remanufactured products which have been repaired to operate like new products.
All of these measures place our commitment to the environment at the forefront of everything we do. It is our hope that we set an example within the industry of future-proof business practices, ensuring that we do all that is possible to preserve our planet.
